The first lecture for Principle of Effective Teaching and Assessment on Friday, 1st October 2010 was an interesting day for me. There were a lot of knowledge and information about effective teaching I got, not only from my lecturer, but also from my friends by discussing. Ms. Tika gave us a lyric of a song titled Teacher, and she asked us to interpret the most powerful part of the lyric. I found it, it was a part of lyric that shows us teachers always give opportunities and never let their students failed. Nevertheless, the most powerful part of the lyric exactly was teachers never stop to teach and learn, but Ms. Tika said that there is no right and wrong answer, so that my answer wasn’t totally wrong. After that, Ms. Tika asked us to discuss in group about our teachers in the past that was good and not good. It was very interesting part of the lecture, because I could share about my experiences with my friends. Both of my friends in my group chose their good teacher when they were in senior high was Physics teacher and they chose their Mathematics teacher as not good teacher. It was quite different from me, because I was the opposite of them. I chose my Mathematics teacher as good teacher and Physics teacher as not good teacher. After discussing about our experiences, then we were asked to create characteristics of effective teaching. My group decided that effective teaching were giving problem solving, letting students to think out of the box, teaching patiently and with hearth, teaching innovatively and creatively, etc. Meanwhile, other groups also created wonderful ideas of characteristics of effective teaching. We could share our ideas to each other. It was exited class.
